I went to korea last summer and I had some great sewing time with my mom.
so today,
I am going to share how my mom taught me how to sew a zipper fly.
Here, I cut out the pattern pieces of the pattern.
I combine the zipper fly and the right side leg panel together as you can see here. but you can cut them separately and sew them together to make this shape.
for the left side, there is no extension for a zipper.
It just looks like this.
and Apply fusible interfacing as you can see here.
Finish the edges with your preferred method (serge or zigzag stitch). I used my overlock stitches.
and put the right side and the left side together.
I am going to Stitch the front crotch seam from the mark to the crotch.
if you are curious, why i left this part here you can check it out in my next vid about how to make the slacks.
I will finish the front & back crotch together at the last last step when i make pants.
anyway back to the zipper,
I used the right color thread for the crotch part and used the yellow one which will be removed later.
Press the seam.
Now, This is the special way my mom taught me to sew a zipper.
I will fold the left part and run a line of edgestitching all the way down from the folded edge.
I will get you to see this more closely, I will stitch as close as possible from the folded edge of the fabric.
right here.
When one side is done, place the zipper fly back over the zipper.
and stitch from the top edge to the zipper notch.
Press it nicely.
Now that the zipper is installed, the very last thing to do is create that nice J-shaped topstitching on the right side of the garment.
To get a really nice shape, I made the shape pcs with this hard mesh material. you can make it with hard paper or so.
Just simply place it on the pants and Topstitch along the edge to the guide piece.
Now, I remove the yellow thread.
Next thing to do is attach the fly shield to the left pant front.
I attach an interfacing and sew down here and turn it over.
then finish the serge here with an overlock.
Slide the fly shield underneath the zipper and align its finished edge as you can see here. Pin in place.
Stitch right on top of the existing line of stitching to secure the fly shield in place.
To secure the fly and prevent it from flipping back and forth, place a small bartack at the corner of the fly shield and fly facing.
And I am all done! Now Follow my pattern instructions to attach the waistband and assemble the rest of the pants!
