Double welt pocket for a coat

I made this inside double welt pocket for a coat.

It has been a while since I have done this.

I draw the opening line on the right side of the body panel.

and I cut a piece of fusible interfacing that is bigger than the pocket opening.

and iron on the interfacing over the placement on the wrong side of the garment

This is my fabric for the welt.

I attached interfacing and will cut the welt in bias.

The center line will be the pocket opening.

This pocket size is 13cm width and 1.5cm height.

and I cut this welt panel around 19*15cm at this moment. I will trim it out later.

I Stitch along the top and bottom edges of the box.

Backstitch to secure.

(I notice the lines are not perfectly even in length this time. please bear with me)

cut in between the two lines of stitches of the welt piece.

and These are for the pocket lining.

I cut 15cm *22 cm for the under pocket lining and 3cm taller for the upper pocket lining.

Pull the welts through the opening to the wrong side of the garment.

If you get wrinkles in the corners, that’s because you didn’t cut far enough.

and iron the seams.

and handstitch the welts in place. These stitches will be removed later.

I am going to stitch around the pocket box triangle and side seams of the welts.

I am going to add a button closure since this is the inside pocket for a coat.

It is around 14cm square. I attached the interfacing.

and fold like this.

Now I am going to attach the bottom pocket lining onto the bottom welt strip.

right sides together and stitch the edges.

and turn it over and press it.

Then put the upper side on them.

and then stitch around the pocket all together.

then finish the edges with an overlock.

I hand stitch one corner of the pocket with the front facing.

and left about a length of 2~3 cm of the thread loose. so it still holds but can move around naturally.

Give your pocket a final press and — ta-da — I am done!

You can find more detail of the process from the vid below. :)
