DIY Drawstring Backpack with a hand towel

A drawstring backpack is perfect for a sewing beginner. It is simple and easy to make.

I designed the backpack before my summer vacation to Portugal and I really wanted to use towel as the textile for my design. I looked for the perfect towels to meet my design mood but I couldn't find any. so what did I do? I got them from primarks.

It would be much nicer and better if i had an old one to upcyle. however I only have new ones at this moment. That is why i had to purchase them new. (what can you do?)

well, Indeed, I have a really cute towel backpack! Don't you agree?

Let me share the sewing process. Let's get started!

I bought a hand towel & a pack of face cloths. I only needed 1 pc each of them.

and I prepared the drawstring & a bias binding tape in coral. This has a 1" width.

I cut the backpack body on the hand towel. and cut out the pocket & the flap from the face towel.

I finished the pocket edges with the bias binding tape and attached them on the backpack. Then i stitched the side seams and made the string pockets at the top. After adding the strings i was finished!

You can check out more of the sewing process in the below video if you are interested!

I went to lisbon with my handmade dress & the backpack. It was perfect for traveling. I carried it to a swimming pool and so many historical places. plus it is really light so there is less stress about carrying a lot of items such as a camera, a makeup bag and travel essentials.

This simple sewing project is so perfect for a sewing beginner and the best way to reuse an old towel if you have any.
