Upcycling Furniture Project No.1

I have been wanting to paint some of my old furniture, but I was too lazy and the pieces were good enough that i just left them for a while.

After moving to Essex, I finally found some good ideas that i really like so I upcyled my old furniture indeed!😉

I bought this for 5 pounds from a second hand store in UK 4 years ago. This has been great as an organizer. It was my first time painting furniture. Frankly speaking, It is almost my first time to paint anything besides helping my mom paint a small wall a long time ago.

I studied how to paint on youtube and I just decided to try painting something small first before going for something big.

BTW, I used Rust-Oleum Matt Furniture Paint Evening Blue 750ml and there remains a lot so i will use it for the other furniture.

I sanded the spaces where I will paint and applied the primer. After a lot of searching and studying, I finalized my idea that I will paint some areas and leave some original colors on some points instead of painting all of it, which ended up being a bit of a big challenge for a painting beginner like me. Ignorance is bold but you have to start somewhere!

I did 2 coats and finished it. after 1 coat, I figured out that a good brush & good roller is important. I used a 1 pound paint brush & roller and the texture remained very rough which i was not happy with. So I bought a better brush which is softer and has a rubber handle. I also used a waterpaint brush for small/corner area which was great to finish.

I was going to varnish / fix the wood paint part but I used all my energy on the paint already 😂😂😂 So I just finished it ! hahahaha. may be next time, when the weather is nice and warm, I can update the wood part. but for now, I am done with this.

It was really fun to try. My practice is done and maybe or maybe not, I am ready for the next project! hahaha.

Painting is such a quick and the easy way to update a home interior. I will slowly make over the house and can't wait to share it with you!
