Sew Along : Mccalls 8177

This week, I am going to share my sewing progress how to make this dress with m8177

This is a princess seamed flared button dress.

And you can choose straps or puff sleeves and a belt.

I am going to do view C and will modify the sleeves.

This is a chiffon poly fabric. So this is really tricky to hold and cut.

The view C was too long for me so I shortened the pattern.

I used C but shorten the length later like B. and i have modified the sleeves.

First I made a bias tape with the main fabric.

Have you checked out my youtube channel? I have uploaded how to make a continuous bias tape. Please check it out in the link above or on my channel.

Checking the fit middle of progress.

The waist is not too tight. And everything looks ok.

First I have modified the design.

I cut the length longer than the pattern.

And I will use this bias tape as a casing to make a ruffle in the middle.

Then I insert the elastic through the casing.

Stitch across ends of casings.

After that, I will stitch the underarm seam of the sleeves.

I have to finish the dress hem and I am not sure about the ankle length.

The design and this fabric itself are fine. But when they come together, it looks a bit like a middle century dress? What do you think?

I have decided to shorten the dress so indeed , this will be view B with modified sleeves.

I love Neck Square. The flare skirt and the flowy puff sleeves made this dress more dreamy.

I didn’t make a belt but I will use my personal belt to go with it.

And I am so happy to have this cute summer dress.
