Newlook 6651 Review

Hello, It is always a challenge to make something for someone. Especially when I can’t measure them 100 times for every single process. However, I try to study sewing patterns & all different body shapes. This time, I used Newlook pattern #N6651 for my lovely friend. The pattern itself was not that difficult to make a custom fit to fit. However, I was still worried about some parts like the waistband size & the puff sleeves since I created the pattern. It ended up fitting so well and my friend is so happy to have it!

Patter Detail

NEW LOOK MISSES' BUTTON FRONT DRESS WITH ELASTIC WAIST 6651

Misses' Shirtwaist Dresses in two lengths. Dress button fastens at front with elasticated waist. Sleeve and collar options. Designed for woven fabrics.

  • What size did you make?

I measured her and customized the pattern for her body shape. She wears size 8 but the 10 was the smallest one in the pattern so I used a size 10. I was worried if the shoulder was big on her but it indeed fits just well.

  • What fabric did you use?

I used polyester fabric which I bought from South korea. The print has a very 70’s vibe - colorful and vivid. The color & the mood was just perfect for her.

  • What adjustments did you make and how long did they take?

I made puff sleeves and shortened the length. It only took 2 days to finish.

  • What was the construction process like?

It was really easy to sew. If you are not used to making a stand collar, it might be very tricky. but It is still worth trying. I was supposed to use 2 elastic bands at the waist but I only used one elastic band around 5cm wide.

  • Did the instructions make sense to you?

It was easy to understand.

  • How do you like the pattern’s fit? Do you think the design works well for your particular body shape?

My friend loves the fit and the design. This dress is an easy-to-wear style with an elasticated waist that accentuates the body silhouette, leading into a floating midi length skirt. It is perfect for summer styling.

  • Will you make the pattern again? If so, what fit or design changes will you make?

Yes, I will. For me next time. I might use linen fabric for shirt dress styling and I won’t change any design & pattern next time.
