Duffle Coat with Seamwork's Albion Coat

I am going to share this week's sewing project of mine, the " Duffle Coat".

My husband had looked for a duffle coat and he couldn't find what he liked, so I decided to make a coat for him.

I bought the pattern from SeamWork. It is PDF pattern. you can print it out at home.

It is a classic, duffel-style coat (version 1) or jacket (version 2). Each version is unisex and features toggle closures, tailored two-piece sleeves, yoke details, and a stylish three-piece hood.

Version 1 is a coat that hits at the mid thigh, with patch pockets, in-seam pockets, a detachable hood tab, and flannel lining, and version 2 is a hip-length unlined jacket with a combination of felled and bound seams, in-seam pockets, and interior pockets.

I used Version 1 without any changes.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes, the instructions are great, precise and clear.

Fabric Used:

It is a mixed wool fabric for the outshell and cotton for the inside.. I bought it from a local fabric market in london. The outshell was thick enough to keep him warm and my sewing machine could handle it well.

I used around 3 meters for XL size.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I moved the pocket placements towards the side seam.

and skipped the side seam pockets.

but i added an inside pocket which was his request and it is very nice and functional.

Besides that, I followed all the instructions.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

I am going to make the coat again since it is unisex. This pattern is so lovely and it wasn't as difficult as a pea coat. I would recommend it to anyone but I would like to suggest you to use different styles of buttons. The toggles are so difficult to stitch and i had to deal with a huge challenge there. It is not easy to top stitch them nicely. So maybe another option for mine!

Conclusion:

Before I cut the main fabric, I made a test garment to check the fit & length.

That helps a lot to understand the pattern. Top stitching wasn't so easy with my sewing machine but it handled it somehow anyhow! It is very nice a classic coat to keep warm and cozy.
