This week, I am going to share how I made this wonderful men’s wool coat for my husband with the Vogue sewing pattern 8940.
I traced the pattern. It took 3 days to fix and understand the construction.
This is the fabric I am going to use. It is 100% wool . Not too thick. It is perfect for a jacket or a coat.
And I am going to use this for a lining. very silky and soft polyester.
By the way, My husband picked them out.
Cut the front & front side.
Fused interfacing on the whole panels and added interfacing tape.
Cut the collar, collar band and pocket welt.
Fused interfacing on the whole panels and added the interfacing tape.
Back yoke- Whole interfacing + interfacing tape
Back & Sleeves - Interfacing only for the hem.
Stitched the lining first.
stitch the upper front and the front together.
attached the pocket welt.
attached the pocket lining and sew the side & the front together.
Sew the back yoke & the back together.
used a small pcs of the fabric (cut in bias) to fix the pocket placement.
Test the garment on him.
I shorten the length from option A and no back opening.
Stitched the one seam for the sleeve
and stitch the remaining seam and press the seam open.
Attached the sleeves to the body.
Made a collar
Added it on the body.
Stitch the Center front.
stitch the lining and the main sleeve together.
stitched the lining and body together.
Handstitch the hem and turn it over.
Tacking the sleeve and Slit stitch the bottom hem & sleeve hem
and top stitch the centerfront & make button holes.

Here, I am done with my husband's winter coat. It has been awhile since I made a coat. it was not easy to remember how to do it.
I tried to remember some important things and share the sewing journey with you.
